Praia da Prainha is a beach in Caniçal, Madeira. It is located at 15 kilometers from the city of Caniço. With a total area of 0.6 acres, Praia da Prainha is the 9th biggest beach in a radius of 50km. There are 3 parking lots available nearby. Good news! Three of them are free! There is one food option available closeby. A toilet is available only 32 meters away. This beach is very private and has a lot of natural scenery. It rates an 8 out of 10 on our immersiveness index, meaning you can expect it to be very quiet.

Unless you knew the beach is here you wouldn’t spot it from the main road. Parked in the overlook (where you get a good view back towards the airport/Funchal) and looked down over this small beach with it’s volcanic sand - there are a couple of newish looking concrete picnic tables just down from the lay-by. A road does lead down to the beach but it’s usually closed as there’s very little parking and only a shortish walk down to the beach (which is why you’ll notice numerous cars without occupants parked in the lay-by). There’s also a small cafe on the beach.
3 - Small sandy beach

Most of the beaches we know on Madeira are covered with small or not so small pebbles, which is not ideal for a little child.
So we came here hoping to enjoy the sand and have our daughter play in it.
We were quite disappointed.
Judging by the number of cars parked around in the afternoon, this beach is quite popular. It is very small and simply overcrowded. And, frankly, there is nothing do special about it. The view is fine, but not extraordinary.
On top of that you have to walk down quite a steep path to get there for 5-10 minutes, & parking is difficult to find, which is simply not worth it.
If you do want to see less of a crowd, come in the morning - there are significantly less cars/ people.
3 - Amazing views, but filthy

Sure, you can swim here. The water is relatively clean from what I could see, but the beach itself, very rocky (round bolders the size of a fist to a basketball) is dirty, littered with plastic and other junk that the sea deposited here. Sadly, the only places where you could extend a towel to lie down (we saw people do that) is where there's most trash... Keep that in mind.
